25 May, 2012: Mahindra Scorpio SUV is going under scalpel and W105 is the code name given to Mahindra’s facelift project. The refreshed version of Mahindra Scorpio is likely to arrive in the year 2014. The all new Mahindra Scorpio is likely to lose weight and the auto major has designed a special project called T026 to reduce down the weight of the car by 260 kilograms with the incorporation of fibre parts which is going to increase the efficiency level of the car and is going to make it more frugal. Mahindra is likely to add an all-new heart to new Scorpio; the 2.2L engine from the Cheetah XUV 500 that churns out 140bhp-330Nm torque is likely to go under the hood of Scorpio. To increase the legroom space in the middle row, Mahindra is eyeing to increase the wheelbase.

Mahindra Scorpio is the flagship SUV manufactured by Mahindra & Mahindra. It was the first SUV from the company built for the global market. The Scorpio has been successfully accepted in international markets across the globe. The Scorpio was conceptualized and designed by the in-house integrated design and manufacturing (IDAM) team of M&M. The car has been the recipient of three prestigious awards: the "Car of the Year", "Best SUV of the Year" and "Best Car of the Year" award from elite organizations.

For ages now, Mahindra Scorpio has been providing an out and out off-roading experience to the SUV fans across the country. Unlike the other SUVs in the country, Mahindra’s vehicles are known for their macho looks delivering powerpacked performance and Mahindra Scorpio is the first to hit the mind while considering an SUV. The Mahindra Scorpio was debuted in India in 2002. In April 2006, the company launched an upgraded Scorpio – christening it the 'All-New' Scorpio. Apart from the mechanical changes, the new Scorpio got a serious cosmetic makeover as well. In June 2007, Mahindra launched a pick-up version in India known as the Scorpio Getaway. In 2008 Mahindra launched their latest Scorpio with 6 speed automatic transmission gears and fitted it in the VLX variant. In 2009, the mighty muscular Scorpio was launched with the introduction of dual airbags in the front to complementing the Scorpio's ABS. The Scorpio also got the innovative Micro-Hybrid system. All the variants of Mahindra Scorpio are available in two wheel drive option. However, Gateway, VLX and VLX Automatic are also made available in the mighty 4 wheel drive version. Mahindra Scorpio is powered by a 2.2 litre, 4-cylinder mHawk diesel engine that propels the new Scorpio from 0 to 60 in 5.7 seconds flat. M&M engineers introduced this mHawk engine in November 2007. The effortless acceleration is combined with 120 bhp of power, out-muscling other cars. The mHawk Engine was a runaway success. Acknowledging its popularity, M&M worked on standardizing this engine across the various variants. The 2.6L CRDe engine is available only on the Scorpio Getaway, the 5-seater, pickup vehicle.

From engine to exteriors, the new Mahindra Scorpio doesn’t let down at all. The SUV has sporty and fabulous graphics on the exteriors that helps it look class-apart. The front grille further boasts the roots of the firm and its signature bold slotted appearance make its competitors go green with envy. The multi focal headlights are the most exciting part of the exteriors. It not only gives a very striking look to the car but also helps the person while driving at night. The smart provocative bonnet scoop with its low drag intake not only offers amazing exterior looks to the car but also clams the Mahindra Scorpio by letting in air to the intercooler and makes the engine very cool. Moving on from the front, the side profile of the new Mahindra Scorpio also has a very appealing and bold look and ensures the safety on the whole. The door handles are chunky and add a bit more styling along with the grip that would make it easy to open up the door. The shiny spoiler fixed at the roof edge adds more style to the SUV. The 5 seater car offers ample of luggage space in case of long journeys. Also the incorporated rear foot step helps the people to jump very easily. The 16 inches of alloy wheels make the SUV look more robust and sporty.

The interiors of the new Mahindra Scorpio are not a disappointment at all. The SUV features elegant and comfortable interiors, which include seats upholstered with fine quality fabric, use of beige and black giving the interiors a soothing appeal and the inner side door trims in beige color that boosts up the whole look. The centre console has a wooden look and offers an impressive and striking look to the interior of the new Mahindra Scorpio. The steering is wrapped with high quality leather together with powerful air condition, 2 DIN audio systems, automatic temperature controls and sun visor. Mahindra and Mahindra have always been perfect in terms of safety features in its cars. The SUV comes with Anti Lock Braking System (ABS) that is best for preventing wheel locking in case of sudden brake and also controls the SUV’s stability. The SUV also has airbags, voice assist and speed alert system, which will aid the driver every time he or she crosses the current speed limit. The voice system will help the driver when one didn’t strap the seat belts or the door is open. The blue vision headlamps present crystal clear visibility of the roads to driver together with the rear fog lamps, which assist in smooth driving even in bad weather condition. Other mentionable safety and handling features of the new Mahindra Scorpio are double horn, tubeless tyres, high mounted stop lamp, child lock and side impact beams.
